Naval Supply Systems Command (NAVSUP) Fleet Logistics Center (FLC) Puget Sound held a change of command ceremony at Manchester Fuel Depot Sept. 1.

Military and civilian staff, local dignitaries, and military leaders from around the region looked on as Capt. Philippe Grandjean relieved Capt. Timothy R. Jett as commanding officer of NAVSUP FLC Puget Sound, headquartered in Bremerton, Wash.

The ceremony took place outdoors in a scenic corner of the depot, a fuel facility located on the shores of Puget Sound and operated by NAVSUP FLC Puget Sound's Fuel Department.

Grandjean, a Supply Corps officer, is a native of Portland, Ore. His previous assignment was as assistant chief of staff for logistics at Commander, Logistics Western Pacific (COMLOG WESTPAC)/Task Force 73 (CTF 73) and deputy commander, Military Sealift Command (MSC) Far East in Singapore.

The presiding officer and guest speaker for the event was Rear Adm. James R. McNeal, commander, NAVSUP Global Logistics Support (GLS) in San Diego, Calif. During his remarks, McNeal praised the accomplishments of NAVSUP FLC Puget Sound under Jett's leadership.

"Good teams do not become great teams without great leadership," said McNeal.

In his first remarks to the men and women of NAVSUP FLC Puget Sound, Grandjean complimented Jett and noted that while serving with the 7th Fleet he had witnessed first-hand the quality and level of support the organization provides.

"I am aware from a customer's standpoint the importance and impact you have on the Navy's mission. I am grateful for the opportunity to lead the NAVSUP FLC Puget Sound team and eagerly look forward to what the future will bring," said Grandjean.

Immediately following the change of command, Jett retired after 25 years of naval service.

Jett thanked his family for their support throughout his career, and expressed his admiration for the men and women he served with at NAVSUP FLC Puget Sound.

"You are truly the foundation that makes our Navy the global force for good. You play a vital role in supporting our nation ... our work is relevant more so today than ever before," said Jett.

Jett acknowledged the organization's achievements over the last two years and the work NAVSUP FLC Puget Sound performs to support the fleet, provide quality of life services for Sailors, and move household goods for Navy families. He pointed out that along with the big accomplishments, having workers engaged at the deck plate level is a also a key aspect of the organization's success.

"I have watched over the past two years as you have met every goal, achieved every benchmark, and continue to innovate and excel. To be consistent, every team member must play a role in achieving success ... It's the small things that make a big difference," said Jett.

Jett then called out several NAVSUP FLC Puget Sound personnel by name and gave examples of how they noticed a problem or went out of their way to take care of a customer.

"Amidst the high profile daily operations, there are countless, often unnoticed contributions that positively impact our success," said Jett.

Jett and his family plan to remain in the Bremerton area.
