The Ticonderoga-class guided-missile cruiser USS Chancellorsville (CG 62) departed Commander Fleet Activities Yokosuka, Japan, for patrol Sept. 7.

Chancellorsville is attached to the Carrier Strike Group (CSG) 5 and is scheduled to conduct routine operations with the Nimitz-class aircraft carrier USS Ronald Reagan (CVN 76).

During the time spent in port, the crew of Chancellorsville prepared for the upcoming underway with multiple training exercises. These exercises included, loss of steering drills; low visibility training; man overboard drills; engineering drills; small boat operations; visit, board, search and seizure (VBSS) evolutions; and crash and salvage drills.

"These warriors are extremely talented with a tremendous amount of experience and knowledge," said Capt. Wilson Marks, commanding officer aboard Chancellorsville. "They've been preparing for evolutions like this and are ready to execute any of the many missions this ship is designed to carry out."

Sailors aboard Chancellorsville understand that the patrol will be challenging but are looking forward to seeing other countries, experiencing new cultures and making new friends.

Fire Controlman 2nd Class James Collins said, even though he has worked hard during the past month, he is ready for the ship to pull back out again.

"It takes a lot of preparation and planning to be ready for patrol," said Collins. "It may be tough, but we are excited and ready to tackle this patrol head on."

During the patrol, Chancellorsville will participate in a number of evolutions and joint training.

Chancellorsville is on patrol with Carrier Strike Group (CSG) 5 off the coast of Japan supporting security and stability in the Indo-Asia-Pacific region.
