The U.S. 6th Fleet has begun making preparations for exercise Silent Response 2016, a regularly scheduled staff exercise that will take place this year in the vicinity of the Olde Mill Inn in Gaeta, Italy.

The purpose of the exercise is to ensure the staff is ready to respond to real-world events, even when experiencing degraded communications capabilities, or from alternate locations.

U.S. 6th Fleet regularly trains and prepares its staff in order to conduct the full spectrum of joint and naval operations, often in concert with allied, joint, and interagency partners in order to advance U.S. national interests and security and stability in Europe and Africa.

Exercise Silent Response 2016 has been conducted since 2015 and is not in response to any specific threat or real-world activity. The training conducted allows for the U.S. 6th Fleet staff to practice its routine functions in degraded communications environments, as well as at alternate locations for flexibility.

Approximately 200 U.S. 6th Fleet personnel will be involved in Silent Response 2016.
