Naval Facilities Engineering Command Far East awarded a $6.9 million contract to improve Fleet Activities Yokosuka's Navy Gateway Inns & Suites (NGIS) Sept. 22.

Work will include renovating 111 guest room kitchen and bathrooms, modifying the fire alarm system and installing a new sprinkler system. Room 122 will also be modified; doorways and interior partitions will be reconfigured to allow wheelchair access.

"The Navy Gateway Inns and Suites is the first exposure many visitors, transient personnel and new families will have to Fleet Activities Yokosuka and Japan," said Public Works Officer Cmdr. Jason Wood. "We're pleased to award this contract, which will improve the safety, facility condition, and overall comfort of these guests during their temporary lodging experience."

The $6,930,835 contract was awarded to Nihon MECCS Co, Ltd. of Tokyo, Japan. Work is scheduled for completion in June 2018.
