The forward-deployed Arleigh Burke-class guided-missile destroyer USS McCampbell (DDG 85) pulled into Donghae, Korea, for a scheduled port visit, Oct. 15.

The visit marks the end of McCampbell's participation in the biannual, bilateral exercise Invincible Spirit conducted with the Republic of Korea (ROK) Navy to improve maritime interoperability and improve combat readiness.

"We are excited to be in Korea to take a much needed break and enjoy what the Korean culture has to offer," said Cmdr. Ed Angelinas, commanding officer of McCampbell. "My crew worked incredibly hard during the Invincible Spirit exercise and will use this opportunity to spend time off the ship experiencing everything that the Republic of Korea has to offer."

While in Donghae, Sailors will have the opportunity to take tours of the local area and participate in events sent up by the ship's Morale, Welfare and Recreation (MWR) program.

"This is one of many foreign port visits I have made in the U.S. Navy, and just like all foreign port visits, I look forward to learning about Korean culture, language, and trying local cuisine," said Petty Officer 2nd Class Marquis Creary, from Brooklyn, New York.

The ship will also host a reception for U.S. and Korean dignitaries to continue to build the relationship between the U.S. and Republic of Korea.

McCampbell is currently on patrol with Carrier Strike Group Five (CSG 5) in waters surrounding the Korean Peninsula supporting security and stability in the Indo-Asia-Pacific region.
