Arleigh Burke-class guided-missile destroyer USS Curtis Wilbur (DDG 54) arrived in Sasebo, Japan for a regularly scheduled port visit, Oct. 16.

This port visit follows Curtis Wilbur's completion of the ship's participation in exercise Invincible Spirit 2016, a bilateral exercise including U.S. and Republic of Korea maritime forces focused on improving interoperability and sustaining credible combat power.

"My crew performed fantastically day-in and day-out during Invincible Spirit," said Cmdr. Amy Graham, commanding officer of Curtis Wilbur. "They have earned some rest and recovery before we head back out to finish our patrol."

The ship's time in Sasebo will allow a restocking of supplies and fuel, while letting the crew relax and enjoy local culture and cuisine. Curtis Wilbur's Morale, Welfare, and Recreation (MWR) committee coordinated tours of Nagasaki City, to include the Nagasaki Peace Park, Hypocenter, Atomic Bomb Museum, Confucius Shrine, Chinatown, and Mt. Inasa.

Curtis Wilbur is currently on patrol with Carrier Strike Group (CSG) 5 supporting security and stability in the Indo-Asia-Pacific region.
