Rear Adm. John Korka, commander, Naval Facilities Engineering Command Pacific, announced the selection of Petty Officer 1st Class Maurice Johnson as the NAVFAC PAC 2016 Sailor of the Year.

Petty Officer 2nd Class Levi Henry and Petty Officer 3rd Class Austin McDowell were also selected as the Junior and Blue Jacket Sailors of the Year, respectively.

"These petty officers are representative of the impressive group of Sailors supporting the United States Navy Pacific Fleet and shore installations in the Indo-Asia-Pacific region," said Korka. "Each of them are leaders. We take pride in their achievements and are confident they will continue to be outstanding role models for their fellow Seabees."

Since reporting to NAVFAC Far East in January 2014, Johnson has been assigned as a power plant manager at Public Works Department (PWD) Yokosuka. He is responsible for the maintenance and operations of the cogeneration and frequency converter power plant at Commander, Fleet Activities (CFA) Yokosuka. The plant provides shore power to U.S. 7th Fleet forward-deployed naval forces, including aircraft carrier USS Ronald Reagan (CVN-76). He also provides support for Navy Mobile Utilities Support Equipment (MUSE), a select group of Seabees who can provide power plants, substations, backup power systems, and technical expertise in remote locations and emergency situations.

Johnson is also involved with the CFA Yokosuka First Class Petty Officer Association and volunteers at many Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) events at local Department of Defense Dependents Schools.

Henry reported to the NAVFAC Hawaii PWD Joint Base Pearl Harbor-Hickam (JBPHH), Hawaii in January 2015. He is the Seabee Division Construction Shop D supervisor, leading eight civilian and six military personnel. Last year, he completed 23 critical construction projects for JBPHH and tenant commands on time and within budget. He is a key member of the NAVFAC Hawaii Shops Integration Project, where his technical expertise and knowledge are instrumental in the seamless transition of Seabee division personnel into the command's production shops.

Henry is an active community member and a positive ambassador for the Navy. He volunteers personal time for the Adopt-A-Highway Program and other local area clean-up efforts, the Seabee Run, Special Olympics, and Wounded Warrior Trials.

McDowell is assigned to NAVFAC Far East PWD Okinawa as the Facilities Sustainment Branch assistant shop supervisor at CFA Okinawa. Last year, he led his team in the successful completion of 158 routine and 25 emergency work requests. He is involved in numerous organizations, including the CFA Okinawa Auxiliary Security Force, Navy and Marine Corps Relief Society, the Junior Enlisted Association, and the Okinawa Navy Football Team.

"I am always impressed by the hard work and dedication of our Sailors, and it is great to see them recognized among such a large group of outstanding professionals throughout NAVFAC," said NAVFAC Far East Senior Enlisted Advisor, Master Chief Petty Officer Michael Hathaway. "Their selection as NAVFAC Pacific Sailor of the Year is a tremendous achievement."

Johnson, as a result of his selection, will represent NAVFAC Pacific as its nominee for NAVFAC Shore Sailor of the Year.

NAVFAC PAC Sailors of Year are selected for the fiscal year ending Oct. 31.
