FLC Jax Employee Named NAVSUP Civilian Logistician of the Year

Rear Adm. Jonathan Yuen announced Glen Van Vorst, Deputy Director, Industrial Logistics Support Department, NAVSUP Fleet Logistics Center Jacksonville (FLCJ), was selected as NAVSUP Civilian Logistician of the Year.

The award recognized Van Vorst's visionary leadership as he ensured his team achieved critical support for new construction milestones at NAVSUP FLCJ Supervisor of Shipbuilding (SUPSHIP) Gulf Coast, including logistics support for fabrication on the ship to shore connector, laying the keel of four new ships, and successfully launching four additional ships.

Under his leadership, NAVSUP FLCJ Southeast Regional Maintenance Center (SERMC) successfully supported 127 ships maintenance, repair, and modernization evolutions, including an Extended Dry-docking Selected Restricted Availability (EDSRA) for USS The Sullivans (DDG 68).

In addition to the EDSRA, NAVSUP FLCJ SERMC completed a complex Integrated Logistics Overhaul with an offload of 11,907 storeroom items valued at $15.4M. The wall-to-wall inventory and subsequent backload were completed with 99.91 percent inventory accuracy, exceeding Commander, Naval Surface Force U.S. Atlantic Fleet goal of 95 percent.

"I have to give credit to the personnel at SERMC and SUPSHIP Gulf Coast for the incredible work they do," said Van Vorst. "It is a reflection of the success we have, not only as a department but as an organization."

NAVSUP FLC Jacksonville, one of eight fleet logistics centers under NAVSUP Global Logistics Support (GLS), provides operational logistics, business and support services to fleet, shore and industrial commands of the Navy, Coast Guard, Military Sealift Command, and other joint and allied forces. Services include contracting, regional transportation, fuel, material management, household goods movement support, postal and consolidated mail, warehousing, global logistics and husbanding, hazardous material management, and integrated logistics support.

NAVSUP GLS provides global logistics for a global Navy. The organization is made up of approximately 6,300 military and civilian logistics professionals operating from 105 locations worldwide, providing an extensive array of integrated global logistics and contracting services to Navy, Marine Corps, joint operational units, and allied forces across all warfare enterprises.
