Naval Supply Systems Command Global Logistics Support (NAVSUP GLS) Commander Rear Adm. James McNeal recognized Business Operations Department Program Analyst Ruby McGill by naming her Civilian of the Year at the command's headquarters, Nov. 17.

As Civilian of the Year, McGill received the Navy Meritorious Civilian Service Award in recognition of her significant contributions supporting NAVSUP, NAVSUP GLS, and Business Operations missions from Oct. 1, 2015 through Sept. 30.

To qualify for the award, McGill was recognized as a NAVSUP GLS Civilian of the Quarter during the second quarter of fiscal year 2016. She competed with the three other Civilians of the Quarter and was selected to be the most deserving among the small, exceptional group of civilian workers.

"Everyone at our command knows Ruby does the work of three employees at once, is always smiling, and it is simply impossible to interact with her and not have that interaction make your day," said McNeal. "She's involved in every major event we have here at NAVSUP GLS, and she still manages an extremely heavy workload -- I can't imagine a more deserving recipient."

The award recognized McGill for her managerial expertise, professional skills, leadership, and dedicated efforts which contributed to the success of NAVSUP GLS business operations in support of NAVSUP GLS global mission requirements.

In addition, McGill managed large and small contract awards and modifications of $3.5 million, adeptly supporting the NAVSUP GLS headquarters staff. She also planned, prepared, and executed two senior executive leadership offsite events during the last fiscal year.

"I've been working for the government for 31 years, and I have to say that I am ever so thankful, especially since I've been here at NAVSUP GLS since 2005," said McGill.

"I have gained so much support, leadership, and mentoring from many different walks of life -- thank you to my entire NAVSUP GLS family," said McGill. "It is a tremendous honor to be acknowledged by such an esteemed, prestigious organization, and to be part of the NAVSUP Global Logistics Support family. I am grateful for the opportunity to further my career and knowledge in support of the warfighter."

The Navy Meritorious Civilian Service Award recognizes merit in exceptional professionalism, personal initiative, devotion to duty, and extraordinary service.

NAVSUP GLS provides global logistics for a global Navy. The organization is made up of more than 6,300 military and civilian logistics professionals operating from 105 locations worldwide, providing an extensive array of integrated global logistics and contracting services to Navy, Marine Corps, joint operational units and allied forces across all warfare enterprises.
