Navy Supply Systems Command Fleet Logistics Center Bahrain Petty Officer 1st Class (Surface Warfare/Aviation Warfare) Sarah Longoria was named the NAVSUP Global Logistics Support enterprise Senior Sailor of the Year Nov. 9.

Longoria was selected from among eight finalist candidates representing the eight Fleet Logistics Centers operating around the world. As the active-duty Senior Sailor of the Year, PO1 Longoria will represent NAVSUP GLS at the annual Naval Supply Systems Command Sailor of the Year competition.

"I'm honored to have been selected among a group of such fine Sailors and leaders," said Longoria. "I could not have accomplished this distinction without the support and hard work of my junior Sailors, nor the guidance and leadership of my senior mentors."

Longoria has been described by her chain of command as the backbone of NAVSUP FLC Bahrain. She is an exceptionally talented leader who finds innovative means to lead the FLC team to success. Her Logistics Support Center team excels in providing logistical and customer service to U.S. Naval assets in the region.

Longoria's professional accomplishments include expertly leading 20 Sailors and 14 civilians in all aspects of material handling equipment (MHE). She oversaw the phased replacement of 16 MHE assets, including contract negotiations, procurement, and shipping. In addition to providing word-class MHE support to the Fifth Fleet, Longoria has firmly established herself as a proficient Regional Material Handling Equipment Program Manager (RMHEPM) and Transportation Officer (TO) - a position normally held by Government Service Employees in higher pay grades. As Transportation Officer, she flawlessly expedited more than 33 shipments for VP-40, VP-5, ASD Bahrain, and AIMD Bahrain to various locations around the world valued at more than $1 million dollars. Additionally, she was instrumental in preparing for the first ever NAVSUP Inspector General Inspection and passing it with flying colors.

Her collateral duties include Sexual Assault Prevention and Response Point of Contact, Command Career Counselor, Command Sponsor and Indoctrination Coordinator, Command Mentorship Coordinator, Command Managed Equal Opportunity CAT member, Command CPO365 training coordinator, Command Blue Jacket of the Quarter (BJOQ) and Junior Sailor of the Quarter (JSOQ) Selection Committee Chairperson, and Command Training Team Lead. Her off-duty activities include serving as NSA Bahrain First Class Petty Officer Association Vice-President, Actively participating in NSA Bahrain Morale Welfare, and Recreation events, and working toward a master's degree in humanities.

Her personal decorations include one Navy Commendation Medal; two Navy Achievement Medals, one Military Outstanding Volunteer Service Medal, and designation as both Surface Warfare and Aviation Warfare, as well as several deployment and operational awards.

"Petty Officer Longoria is clearly a spectacular leader who understands that mission success requires an unmatched commitment to our Sailors. Her natural leadership earns and inspires trust of seniors and juniors alike. She does it all and makes it look easy!" said Capt. Kerry Pearson, commanding officer, NAVSUP FLC Bahrain.

The Sailor of the Year program was established in 1972 by the Chief of Naval Operations Adm. Elmo Zumwalt and Master Chief Petty Officer of the Navy John Whittet to recognize an individual Sailor who best represented the ever-growing group of dedicated professional Sailors at each command and ultimately the Navy. We congratulate Petty Officer Longoria on this monumental achievement and wish her the best of luck in the future. Whether her career leads to her joining the ranks of Chief Petty Officers or receiving a commission, she can be depended on to serve as a role model and true leader to all junior sailors.

NAVSUP FLC Bahrain has more than 180 military and civilian personnel providing logistics support in the region. The command is one of eight FLCs worldwide in the NAVSUP GLS enterprise.
