Naval Support Facility (NSF) Deveselu held a change of command ceremony in Deveselu, Romania, Nov. 29.

Capt. Jon Grant relieved Capt. James Craycraft as commanding officer of NSF Deveselu during the ceremony.

The ceremony was presided over by Capt. Lawrence Vasquez, chief of staff, Navy Region Europe, Africa, Southwest Asia (EURAFSWA).

"While today's ceremony is a celebration of Captain Craycraft and his achievements as a commanding officer, today is also a celebration of the past two years and the progress that has been made possible by many who are in attendance today," Vasquez said during the ceremony. "Tomorrow, we will officially commission the second Aegis Ashore site in Redzikowo, Poland. Work there is progressing well due to the lessons learned from the work we accomplished here."

Craycraft assumed command in January. During his tenure, key base infrastructure was built, including a dining and housing facility. Under his leadership, Sailors helped meet the president's mandate and NATO acceptance of the Aegis Ashore Missile Defense Facility (AAMDF) on time.

"The privilege of being in command of the Naval Support Facility Deveselu has been and always will be one of the highlights of a long military career," Craycraft said during his speech. "The position, the people, and the country of Romania will be missed every day."

Grant comes to NSF Deveselu following his most recent tour as commanding officer of Navy Munitions Command, Mobile Mine Assembly Group located in San Diego. He enlisted in the Navy in 1983 and was commissioned via the Limited Duty Officer Program in June 1994.

Some of his previous assignments include combat systems test officer aboard guided-missile destroyer USS Fitzgerald (DDG 62); officer-in-charge, Aegis Training and Readiness Center, Det. San Diego; staff officer for Commander, Mobile Mine Assembly Group, Corpus Christi, Texas; officer-in-charge, Navy Munitions Command, East Asia Division, Det. Sasebo; officer-in-charge of the Ammunition Management Office Pacific (AMMOPAC) in San Diego; and commanding officer of Navy Munitions Command, East Asia Division, Unit Guam.

As the first Navy shore installation commissioned since Everett, Washington, in 1987, NSF Deveselu is co-located in south-central Romania with the Romanian 99th Military Base. NSF Deveselu provides installation facilities, resources, and services to support and enable its tenant command, AAMDS.

NSF Deveselu is the seventh Navy Region EURAFSWA installation. EURAFSWA provides operational platforms ashore which enable U.S., allied, and partner nation forces to be where they are needed and when they are needed to ensure security and stability in Europe, Africa, and Southwest Asia.
