Harpers Ferry Receives Commodore

05 April 2016
Commander Amphibious Squadron 1 (CPR 1) Commodore, Capt. Keith Moore, made a visit to dock landing ship USS Harpers Ferry (LSD 49) in order to meet face-to-face with the leadership and crew March 31.
Commander Amphibious Squadron 1 (CPR 1) Commodore, Capt. Keith Moore, made a visit to dock landing ship USS Harpers Ferry (LSD 49) in order to meet face-to-face with the leadership and crew March 31.

Moore is embarked on amphibious assault ship USS Boxer (LHD 4) and this was the first opportunity for the crew of Harpers Ferry to meet him since the ships departed Feb. 12, on their current deployment.

"The purpose of this visit was just a simple meet and greet and to check in on how we are doing before he looses this opportunity when the ships begin to transit further apart," said Cmdr. John Rigby, the commanding officer of Harpers Ferry.

Despite the limited time spent on board, the commodore made a big impression on the Sailors by walking around to every department and talking to the crew.

"It feels good to be able to put an image to (CPR 1) and to get answers while simply holding a normal conversation," said Ship's Serviceman 2nd Class Kristopher Wilson. Wilson was manning his post in the ships store when Moore surprised him with a visit and asked him how he thinks things in his department are running.

Moore finished his visit by holding a meeting and open forum with the officers on board.

"Capt. Moore is an incredible guy to talk to and is very knowledgeable," said Ensign Bryan Rhodes. "It's also not everyday that you get to see the human side of the Commodore and be able to laugh and hold a normal conversation with them."

Harpers Ferry is a member of the Boxer Amphibious Ready Group, 13th Marine Expeditionary Unit team and is currently conducting operations in the U.S. 7th Fleet area of operations during a scheduled deployment in support of security and stability in the Indo-Asia-Pacific region.
