Naval Aviation Enterprise leadership named Chris Hawes a winner of the Outstanding Performance Award during an NAE Air Board video teleconference, March 10.

Hawes, Naval Air Systems Command Aircraft Readiness Analysis Branch lead, was recognized for his role as the Current Readiness Analysis Team lead Air Vehicle A-D Integrated Product Team lead for the F/A-18 and EA-18G, which manages more than 1,600 domestic and international aircraft.

Hawes' work was critical to improving the readiness posture of all Navy and Marine Corps type/model/series aircraft platforms, and facilitating cost savings and avoidance for these platforms through his focused efforts to identify and implement readiness gap and operational and support cost reduction initiatives, according to the letter of appreciation signed by Vice Adm. Paul Grosklags, commander, Naval Air Systems Command.

"You spearheaded the development of the powerful Integrated Logistics Support Management data triage process that helped each TMS program identify and attack readiness and cost degraders," Grosklags said. "You supported the Future Readiness Cross-Functional Team for the last three years by leading the validity analysis of multiple program team investment initiatives."

"Working with stakeholders across the NAE, you helped develop and implement the Aircraft Status Dashboard (ASD) tool," Grosklags continued. "Which provided leadership with a quick roll-up view of the readiness posture of all current readiness TMS aircraft platforms. Additionally, you were vital in providing key readiness, maintenance, supply, and inventory data for tool development and several high-visibility data calls."

Hawes, a retired Sailor, who collects and analyzes Naval Aviation flight and maintenance data, heads a team of 20 systems analysts and programmers. He said being able to give back to those currently serving has made for a very rewarding second career.

"In my 30 years of being involved with data, it has only been the last few years that I have seen such high level interest in what the data is or isn't telling us and it is refreshing to know that our work is being recognized," he said.

"Being recognized by the NAE is greatly appreciated as is a simple thank you from someone in the fleet," Hawes said. "I am glad I am able to help."

ILSMS is a data analysis tool that pulls from numerous maintenance, supply and inventory reporting systems and provides analysts and other Naval Aviation stakeholders with a single source for actionable data.

The NAE Air Board, composed of leaders partnering to pursue the best interests of Naval Aviation, recognizes typically one Sailor, Marine or civilian employee each month for his or her outstanding enterprise-centric contributions to Naval Aviation. Award winners serve as positive examples of the enterprise approach at work.

They routinely illustrate a commitment to the NAE principles of process improvement, a willingness to challenge assumptions, a focus on effectiveness and efficiency and a commitment to the greater good of Naval Aviation.

Naval Aviation leaders have distributed the monthly NAE Outstanding Performance Award since 2008 to promote a culture of cost-wise readiness. For a full listing of monthly award winners since 2008, visit www.nae.navy.mil. For more information, contact the NAE at nae@navy.mil
