The Naval Supply Systems Command Fleet Logistics Center San Diego fuels team racked up three wins for the calendar year 2015 Excellence in Naval Fuel Management Recognition Program (NFMRP) as announced in a congratulatory message April 13.

The awards recognized NAVSUP FLC San Diego's Defense Fuel Support Point (DFSP)-Point Loma facility as the Navy Bulk Fuel Terminal winner for the first award category.

Regional Fuels Director Stephen Frey was named as the individual civilian winner for category five, along with Chief Aviation Boatswain's Mate - Fuel (AW/SW) Richard Decker, who was named Navy Fuel Chief Petty Officer winner.

"We are honored," said Lt. Cmdr. Brian Madden, regional fuels officer. "These wins are a reflection of the pride, professionalism, commitment, and hard work of the 41 superb men and women who make this fuel department the best terminal operation in the fleet."

The fuels team is charged with providing petroleum, oil, and lubricant logistics support to 86 homeported ships, submarines and transient vessels. It is the cornerstone for providing tactical fuel support to Navy command units operating in the Southern California operations area, supporting the largest concentration of naval forces in the world.

"These are magnificent individuals who can be counted on to perform well under duress," said Frey. "They provide one of the most essential commodities needed by the warfighter, and they do it at all hours of the day. Our success is the result of true, professional craftsmen who take pride in their chosen trade."

Apart from the DFSP team award, the category five win also marks the third individual NFMRP civilian award Frey has collected during his career.

"It's easy to overlook the number of high-risk evolutions this team carries out to support the energy requirements of every ship and aircraft in our region," said Madden. "I take great pride in knowing that the success of each evolution hinges on their efforts. They've proven they will meet the mission every time."

Still humbled by their recognition, the NAVSUP FLC San Diego fuels team also received back-to-back 2015 and 2014 Chief of Naval Operations Environmental Awards for their tireless efforts in maintaining optimal support levels to the warfighter, while also mitigating impact to the environment.

"Fuel is big business in the Southwest Region, and FLC San Diego is home to the Navy's finest fuels experts," said Commanding Officer Capt. John Palmer. "This recognition confirms that FLC San Diego delivers. Bravo Zulu to our fuels teams, and many thanks to our regional leadership and installation commanding officers for all of their partnership and support."

NAVSUP FLC San Diego, one of eight fleet logistics centers under NAVSUP Global Logistics Support (GLS), provides operational logistics, business and support services to fleet, shore and industrial commands of the Navy, Coast Guard, Military Sealift Command, and other joint and allied forces. Services include contracting, regional transportation, fuel, material management, household goods movement support, postal and consolidated mail, warehousing, global logistics and husbanding, hazardous material management, and integrated logistics support.
