Naval Supply Systems Command Global Logistics Support postal personnel from around the globe met for the first-ever NAVSUP GLS Postal Strategic Planning Meeting, April 12-14 in San Diego.

The three-day meeting brought together the NAVSUP Fleet Logistics Center regional postal managers to discuss operation strategies, including how to capitalize on emerging technologies and modernizations in the postal delivery service, to better support current and future Fleet customer requirements and needs.

Representatives from all eight NAVSUP FLC locations were in attendance, including Bahrain; Jacksonville, Florida; Norfolk; Pearl Harbor, Hawaii; Puget Sound, Washington; San Diego; Sigonella, Italy; and Yokosuka, Japan. In addition, postal representatives from Naval District Washington in the District of Columbia and FLC Detachment Newport, Rhode Island were in attendance.

"Having postal representatives from all FLCs around the globe attend the conference ensured it was a resounding success," said Dale Pinchart, director, GLS Postal Products and Services. "This meeting is the one time during the year when our postal officers and mail managers can meet face-to-face to discuss and coordinate their communication goals and operational needs."

Agenda items that were accomplished during the meeting included formalizing NAVSUP GLS Postal Guidance; establishing inspection processes to ensure compliance across the FLCs; and codifying how to use technological advances in the postal service to save money and provide tracking services to customers in the fleet.

In addition to the postal-specific conference agenda items, the attendees heard from their NAVSUP GLS senior leadership during a question-and-answer session that the Vice Commander, William Bickert Jr., presided over.

Also during the conference, Charles Ramsey, regional postal manager for FLC Jacksonville, was recognized for serving over a combined 48 years of military and civilian service.

The Postal Strategic Planning Meeting is an improved, re-booted incarnation of the former Region Postal Manager Meeting, which after a three-year hiatus last took place in April 2015.

"While this year's was not the first meeting where we discussed strategies and modernizations in the GLS postal delivery service, we are re-energizing our annual meetings in an effort to make them more strategy-focused to better serve the fleet," said Pinchart.

The next NAVSUP GLS Postal Strategic Planning Meeting is scheduled for April 2017.

NAVSUP GLS provides global logistics for a global Navy. The organization is made up of approximately 6,300 military and civilian logistics professionals operating from 105 locations worldwide providing an extensive array of integrated global logistics and contracting services to Navy, Marine Corps, joint operational units, and allied forces across all warfare enterprises.
