USS Springfield Arrives in Lisbon, Portugal

Springfield is currently deployed to the U.S. 6th Fleet area of operations, demonstrating a commitment to NATO allies and other European partners, and to conduct theater security cooperation efforts.

Quick Facts:

Springfield is capable of anti-submarine and anti-surface warfare; power projection ashore with Tomahawk cruise missiles and Special Operations Forces; conduct intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance missions; support carrier or expeditionary strike group operations; and engage in mine warfare.

During the port visit, Springfield's crew looks to enhance U.S.-Portuguese relations as the two nations work together for a stable, secure and prosperous Europe.

Springfield, homeported in Groton, Connecticut, is conducting naval operations in the U.S. 6th Fleet area of operations in support of U.S. national security interests in Europe.

U.S. 6th Fleet, headquartered in Naples, Italy, conducts the full spectrum of joint and naval operations, often in concert with allied, joint, and interagency partners, in order to advance U.S. national interests and security and stability in Europe and Africa.
