10 May 2016
As part of the Navy's new requirements to increase senior limited duty officer leadership in the Navy Security Force, the security technician chief warrant officer designator will merge into the security officer LDO designator.
As part of the Navy's new requirements to increase senior limited duty officer leadership in the Navy Security Force, the security technician chief warrant officer designator will merge into the security officer LDO designator.

The merger was made official in NAVADMIN 107/16, which was released May 10.

This message applies to active-duty security technician CWOs with the 749X designator. CWO2s and CWO3s who have not failed to select for the next higher paygrade are eligible for the transition to the 649X LDO designator.

CWOs may submit their re-designation request through the LDO and CWO community manager. Their new paygrade will be determined based on their completed years of commissioned service.

Officers who are eligible to transition or those seeking to remain permanent warrant officers must notify the community manager no later than 60 days following the release of NAVADMIN 107/16. Those who do not make contact by the deadline will be considered as choosing permanent CWO status and will compete for promotion among that group.

The billet transitions will take place in two phases as an effort to maximize the health of the community. The transition will begin 90 days after the NAVADMIN's release.

Current CWO4s and CWO5s are not eligible for the merger. Those billets will be converted during the second phase at a later date to allow for viable career paths for the warrant officers not converting.

CWO3s who have failed to select for promotion once or twice, are also not eligible for this transition.
