NAVSUP WSS Wins Gold, Silver, Bronze at Philadelphia Awards Program

NAVSUP Weapon Systems Support (NAVSUP WSS) celebrated employees' exceptional achievements in creating a more efficient and effective government at the annual Philadelphia Federal Executive Board (FEB) Excellence in Government Awards program on May 12.

Out of 48 medalists in 16 categories, NAVSUP WSS won three gold medals, five silver medals, and two bronze medals. NAVSUP WSS nominees competed against over 890 nominated individuals from more than 30 government agencies.

"Everyone here--all of our medalists, all of our nominees--we are all committed to doing our part to realize the ideal that the signers of the Declaration of Independence and the Constitution envisioned," said Lisa Makosewski, executive director of the Philadelphia FEB. "We honor and thank you for your hard work, and often unseen work, to make our country great."

Gold medal winners included John Sweeney in the Outstanding Technical Achievement category, Kevin Lengyel in the Supervisory Achievement category and Lauren Newbert in the Outstanding Community Service category.

Silver medal winners included the Item Improvement Team in the Outstanding Technical Support Accomplishment category, Jarrod Thompson in the Supervisory Achievement category; Evan Moores in the Improved Federal Image category; Karen Bauman in the Service Excellence category; and Tom Strain in the Fresh new Hire category.

Bronze medal winners included Tim McCarthy in the Economy in Government Operations category and Odelia McFadden in the Service Excellence category.

Nominees, leadership and employees from NAVSUP WSS, DLA Troop Support, the Office of Civilian Human Resources, Defense Contract Management Activity and Federal Emergency Management Agency were present at the Northeast Philadelphia event, where more than 400 attendees celebrated the accomplishments of distinguished nominees and winners alike.

Another awards ceremony was held earlier, May 5, for additional participating agencies in downtown Philadelphia.

A field activity of the Naval Supply Systems Command, NAVSUP Weapon Systems Support (NAVSUP WSS) is the U.S. Navy's supply chain manager providing worldwide support to the aviation, surface ship and submarine communities. NAVSUP WSS provides Navy, Marine Corps, joint and allied forces with products and services that deliver combat capability through logistics. There are more than 2,000 civilian and military personnel employed at its two Pennsylvania sites. The NAVSUP WSS Philadelphia site supports aircraft, while its Mechanicsburg site supports ships and submarines.
