Truman Strike Group Arrives in Greece

Four ships from the Harry S. Truman Carrier Strike Group are conducting port visits in Greece to enhance U.S.-Greece relations as the two nations work together for a stable, secure and prosperous Europe.

Guided missile cruiser USS Anzio (CG 68) arrived in Rhodes, June 20. Aircraft carrier USS Harry S. Truman (CVN 75) and guided missile destroyer USS Bulkeley (DDG 84) will arrive, June 21, in Souda Bay and Santorini, respectively. The ships join guided missile destroyer USS Gonzalez (DDG 66), which is currently moored in Souda Bay.

"Enhancing interoperability happens at sea and ashore," said Rear Adm. Bret Batchelder, commander, Carrier Strike Group 8. "Port visits which allow a mutual, increased understanding of culture and ideology build partnership, which can be exercised in a range of environments."

In addition to enjoying the rich culture offered by Greece, Sailors will participate in community relations events, including restoration of a municipality medical center and a children's playground.

Harry S. Truman Carrier Strike Group is deployed in support of Operation Inherent Resolve, maritime security operations and theater security cooperation efforts in the U.S. 6th Fleet area of operations.
