Students from Mayde Creek High School Navy Junior Reserve Officer Training Corps (NJROTC) visited Naval Technical Training Center (NTTC) Lackland to learn how Sailors are trained to become a Navy master-at-arms, June 16.

The Mayde Creek High School NJROTC program was founded by retired Navy Capt. James Kilpatrick and Command Master Chief Gerald Provancha eight years ago, and is the only program within the Katy Independent School District of Houston.

"Our goal for the program focuses on citizenship development and instilling the Navy core values of honor, courage, and commitment," said Kilpatrick. "We want the students to gain leadership experience while encouraging them to step up and do the right thing, as well as taking charge of situations when appropriate."

Twenty-two NJROTC students had the opportunity to learn about different aspects of master-at-arms training taught at the school. Students were able to participate in unarmed self-defense training, experience the small arms training simulator, and observe "A" school students performing personnel and vehicle inspections. The trip wrapped up with a tour of the command's corrections training brig.

The Center for Security Forces provides specialized training to more than 23,000 students each year. It has 14 training locations across the United States and around the world where training breeds confidence.
