Assistant Secretary of the Navy for Manpower and Reserve Affairs Franklin Parker announced the Navy will host the 2017 Department of Defense Warrior Games in Chicago during this year's closing ceremony at the U.S. Military Academy, June 21.

Chief of Staff for the U.S. Army Gen. Mark Milley passed the torch to Commander, Navy Installations Command Vice Adm. Dixon Smith during the live event.

The ceremony celebrated the nearly 250 service members and veterans from the Army, Marine Corps, Navy/Coast Guard, Air Force, Special Operations Command and British Armed Forces who were wounded, ill and injured. These athletes competed six days for gold, silver and bronze medals in archery, cycling, track and field, shooting, swimming, sitting volleyball and wheelchair basketball.

Gary Sinise and the Lt. Dan Band held a concert for the warriors, their family members, friends and caregivers at Trophy Point--West Point's amphitheater that has a backdrop overlooking the Hudson River--followed by fireworks.

The DoD Warrior Games is the pinnacle event of the adaptive sports and reconditioning activities for recovering service members and veterans across the country.
