Naval Support Activity Annapolis Commanding Officer Capt. Logan Jones was relieved by Capt. Vince Baker during a change of command and retirement ceremony in Halsey Field House at the U.S. Naval Academy, June 22.

Jones, a native of Garden City, Kansas, graduated from the U.S. Naval Academy in 1987 with a Bachelor of Science in Oceanography. His prior command assignments include USS Reuben James (FFG 57), where his ship earned all of the Type Commander's Command Excellence Awards for mission area battle readiness and the Battle Efficiency (Battle "E") Award, and USS Vicksburg (CG 69) where his ship was also awarded the Battle "E."

Jones, who has spent the past three years as the NSA Annapolis commanding officer, retired after 29 years of service.

During his tenure, NSA Annapolis was selected as the Naval District Washington Installation Excellence Award nominee for small installations for both 2014 and 2015, and in 2014 NSA Annapolis took third place Navywide for its outstanding performance.

NSA Annapolis' accomplishments under Jones' command also included earning the Naval District Washington nomination for the Chief of Naval Operations Award for Safety Ashore in both 2014 and 2015, and being a leader in energy conservation which earned the installation a Secretary of the Navy "Gold" Energy Award in three consecutive years.

Additionally, Jones was responsible for providing a secure work and learning environment for the staff and students of the U.S. Naval Academy and the over 2.2 million visitors they receive each year.

During the ceremony, Jones thanked those who supported him throughout his career, especially his family. He applauded those with whom he served at NSA Annapolis, paying tribute to their hard work and dedication.

"To the Sailors, civilian employees, and contract partners of Naval Support Activity Annapolis, I want you to know that I have thoroughly enjoyed my time here with you," said Jones. "I am extremely proud to have served beside you and I feel privileged to have been called your 'skipper.'"

Rear Adm. Yancy Lindsey, commandant, Naval District Washington, presented Jones the Legion of Merit for his able leadership of NSA Annapolis from May 2013 to June 2016. The ceremony also recognized Jones' retirement after nearly three decades of exemplary service to the Navy.

Jones was relieved of command by Baker. Prior to coming to NSA Annapolis, Baker commanded Mine Countermeasures Crew Leader aboard USS Warrior (MCM 10). He deployed to the Arabian Gulf in command of USS Dextrous (MCM 13) and completed a joint tour as policy advisor to the Deputy Assistant Secretary of Defense for Prisoner of War/Missing Personnel Affairs in the Office of the Secretary of Defense. Additionally, Baker commanded USS Dewert (FFG 45) and deployed to the Indian Ocean conducting counter-piracy operations in support of NATO.

"It is an honor and privilege to stand here today as the new commanding officer of NSA Annapolis," said Baker. "I look forward to serving you as your commanding officer."

Baker enlisted in the Navy in 1982 and rose through the ranks to chief petty officer. In 1994, Baker was commissioned as a surface ordnance limited duty officer and later was selected for lateral transfer to the unrestricted line, surface warfare community.

NSA Annapolis' headquarters is located across the Severn River from the U.S. Naval Academy and is charged with delivering base operating support services to tenant commands. These include the United States Naval Academy, Naval Health Clinic Annapolis, and the Naval Research Laboratory Chesapeake Bay Detachment in Randle Cliff, Maryland.
