Naval Supply Systems Command Fleet Logistics Center (NAVSUP FLC) Jacksonville hosted a "Bring Your Child to Work Day" at Naval Air Station Jacksonville, Florida June 16.
Naval Supply Systems Command Fleet Logistics Center (NAVSUP FLC) Jacksonville hosted a "Bring Your Child to Work Day" at Naval Air Station Jacksonville, Florida June 16.

The morning kicked off with children reporting for duty in the Virtual Business Office, meeting NAVSUP FLC Jacksonville's Commanding Officer, Capt. Re Bynum; Executive Director, Mitch Palmquist; and Executive Officer, Cmdr. Valerie McCall.

After receiving their daily assignment and getting a photo for their ID badge, the children attended a safety demonstration. The highlight of the demonstration was learning how to evacuate mobility-impaired personnel up and down stairs using special chairs similar to those used in the evacuation of the World Trade Center towers during 9/11.

Later, base security personnel came with one of the military working dogs to demonstrate how the MWDs help track not only criminals, but also missing persons. The children learned the MWD and handler work together as a team to move in various situations such as crawling, being still, and walking on a specific side as the situation requires.

The morning culminated with an arts and crafts time followed by a group photo, then it was off to Naval Station Mayport with their parents to enjoy an afternoon of water games, barbecue and Florida sunshine at the NAVSUP FLC Jacksonville Summer Picnic.
