Ten Sailors from Southwest Regional Maintenance Center (SWRMC) participated in San Diego's Adopt a Beach Program as volunteers at the Imperial Beach Cleanup event June 25.

Volunteers picked up a variety of garbage and recyclables left over from beachgoers including bottles, tissues, wrappers, mini fireworks, and tires.

"Helping to keep Imperial Beach clean, volunteers get to give back to our local community and help ensure beaches are safe for summer fun," said Machinist's Mate 1st Class Emmanuel Perez.

Imperial Beach is an important recreational location within the San Diego community. The beach is a 3.5-mile-long local and tourist attraction known for its white sand and big waves. The area is ideal for swimming, jogging, sunbathing, world-class surfing as well as hosting the internationally-reknowned U.S. Open Sandcastle Competition for the past 30 years.
