The "Dambusters" of Strike Fighter Squadron (VFA) 195 were named the recipients of the Secretary of the Navy Aviation Safety Award for 2015, July 16.
The "Dambusters" of Strike Fighter Squadron (VFA) 195 were named the recipients of the Secretary of the Navy Aviation Safety Award for 2015, July 16.

The SECNAV Aviation Safety Award recognizes the Navy and Marine Corps commands that have demonstrated exceptional and sustained safety excellence.

"To put it simply, this year's many accomplishments are a direct result of the hard work, determination and relentless pursuit of excellence demonstrated by the squadron's most important strategic asset -- our Sailors," said Cmdr. Guy Snodgrass, commanding officer of VFA-195.

The Dambusters executed more than 2,000 sorties, or take-offs and landings, and more than 4,000 mishap-free flight hours from seven locations including two aircraft carrier flight decks.

"The Dambusters have developed a culture of exceptional and sustained safety excellence that should be emulated by all naval aviation units," said Rear Adm. John D. Alexander, commander, Task Force 70.

VFA-195 is based at Naval Air Facility (NAF) Atsugi, Japan, and is assigned to Carrier Air Wing (CVW) 5. The squadron regularly embarks Nimitz-class aircraft carrier USS Ronald Reagan (CVN 76) during the ship's routine patrols throughout the Indo-Asia-Pacific.

VFA-195 regularly participates with the Japan Air Self-Defense Force (JASDF) in exercises to continue the interoperability between U.S. and Japanese forces.

VFA-195 is deployed in support of security and stability in the Indo-Asia-Pacific.
