Naval Supply Systems Command (NAVSUP) Fleet Logistics Center (FLC) Pearl Harbor completed its role supporting the biennial Rim of the Pacific (RIMPAC) exercise, Aug. 4.

For the duration of RIMPAC 2016, June 30 to Aug. 4, FLC Pearl Harbor fulfilled the lead logistics role. The success of any large-scale maritime operation is contingent upon the availability of logistics, particularly the "beans, bullets and black oil" required by all participating units.

RIMPAC 2016 provided the ideal vehicle for FLC Pearl Harbor to execute its mission, where its supply officers, enlisted logisticians and civilian employees proved themselves at the proverbial "tip of the spear."

During a visit to FLC Pearl Harbor July 10-13, NAVSUP Global Logistics Support (GLS) Commander Rear Adm. James McNeal received a firsthand glimpse of FLC Pearl Harbor's logistics operations and cooperative relationships, which are critical in delivering effective, sustained logistics.

"NAVSUP FLC Pearl Harbor plays an important, ongoing role serving the logistics needs of naval and joint warfighters throughout the Pacific Rim," said McNeal. "During this year's RIMPAC, the team superbly demonstrated the exercise theme of 'Capable, Adaptive, Partners,' by strengthening regional partnerships and increasing multinational interoperability through superior logistics coordination with the 26 participating nations."

Among the 25,000 personnel, this year's exercise included participants from Australia, Brunei, Canada, Chile, Colombia, Denmark, France, Germany, India, Indonesia, Italy, Japan, Malaysia, Mexico, Netherlands, New Zealand, Norway, People's Republic of China, Peru, the Republic of Korea, the Republic of the Philippines, Singapore, Thailand, Tonga, and the United Kingdom, in addition to the United States. This is the first time Denmark, Germany, and Italy have participated in RIMPAC.

"The importance of multinational relationships, particularly with regions bordering the Pacific cannot be downplayed," said Lt. Calvin White, FLC Pearl Harbor operational support officer. "Our international counterparts and Reservists fully integrated with the team and led the effort to provide operational support to all 45 U.S. and foreign ships participating in RIMPAC."

The mission of FLC Pearl Harbor is to provide global logistics, business and support services to fleet, shore and industrial commands of the Navy, Army, Air Force, Marine Corps, and joint and allied forces throughout the mid-Pacific.

NAVSUP FLC Pearl Harbor is one of eight fleet logistics centers under NAVSUP GLS, which provides global logistics, business and support services to fleet, shore and industrial commands of the Navy, Coast Guard, Marine Corps, Air Force, Army and allied forces. Services include contracting, regional transportation, fuel, material management, household goods movement support, postal and consolidated mail, warehousing, global logistics and husbanding, hazardous material management and integrated logistics support.

NAVSUP GLS provides global logistics for a global Navy. The command is made up of more than 6,300 military and civilian logistics professionals operating from 105 locations worldwide, providing an extensive array of integrated global logistics and contracting services to Navy, Marine Corps, joint operational units, and allied forces across all warfare enterprises.

A component of the Naval Supply Systems Command headquartered in Mechanicsburg, Pennsylvania, NAVSUP GLS is part of a worldwide logistics network of more than 22,500 military and civilian personnel providing combat capability through logistics.
