Naval Facilities Engineering Command (NAVFAC) Commanding Officer Rear Adm. Bret Muilenburg swore in Paul Pollock as the newest member of the Senior Executive Service (SES) during a ceremony held at NAVFAC headquarters in the historic Washington Navy Yard, Jan. 12.

Members of the SES serve in key positions in approximately 75 federal agencies and are the equivalent to a general officer or flag officer in the military.

"I am humbled and very thankful to Rear Adm. Muilenburg and NAVFAC for giving me this opportunity to serve our Navy and nation," said Pollock, NAVFAC's chief management officer. "I look forward to working with so many great professionals."

Prior to being selected as a member of the SES, Pollock served as the comptroller for NAVFAC Pacific, headquartered in the Makalapa Compound at Joint Base Pearl Harbor-Hickam.

Raised in Honolulu, Pollock is a graduate of Damien Memorial School and the University of Hawaii, where he received a bachelor's degree in architecture.

The SES was established as the keystone of the Civil Service Reform Act of 1978 to "ensure that the executive management of the government of the United States is responsive to the needs, policies, and goals of the nation and otherwise is of the highest quality," according to the Office of Personnel Management.
