Navy Recruiting Command Receives Retention Excellence Award

25 January 2016
Navy Recruiting Command (NRC) and other subordinate commands were announced as winners of the fiscal year (FY) 2015 Retention Excellence Award, Jan. 19.
Navy Recruiting Command (NRC) and other subordinate commands were announced as winners of the fiscal year (FY) 2015 Retention Excellence Award, Jan. 19.

The Retention Excellence Award is given annually to those commands that have met or exceeded the Chief of Naval Operations' (CNO) retention goals.

Programs such as Career Development Boards (CDBs) and Career Waypoints or C-WAY, a program used by the Navy for processing reenlistment quotas, factor into the CNO's criteria.

"C-WAYs play a big role in successfully retaining the best and brightest Sailors," said Senior Chief Navy Counselor Angela Keen, force career counselor at NRC. "Other programs like the career development boards allow our Sailors to get the one-on-one attention they need so they can better decide the right steps to progress their career."

Navy recruiting offers various incentives that often persuade Sailors to continue their careers.

"Here at recruiting, we have so many reasons to stay Navy," said Information Systems Technician 2nd Class Rodney Adams, an information systems support services technician at NRC. "Programs like the Meritorious Advancement Program are huge enticements for someone who may be on the fence about reenlisting into the Navy."

The Retention Excellence Award comes as a big accomplishment for NRC that last won the award in FY 2013.

"This award is a direct reflection of the leadership at every level from the deck plates to the commanding officers," said Rear Adm. Jeffrey W. Hughes, commander, NRC. "These commands have implemented and maintained the six key programs that form the foundation of a successful retention effort, which is a critical strategic investment in our Navy's future."

Navy Recruiting Districts (NRD) Dallas, Jacksonville, Los Angeles, Minneapolis, New England, New Orleans, New York, Portland, Raleigh, Richmond and San Antonio all joined NRC and Navy Recruiting Regions East and West as recipients of the Retention Excellence Award.

NRC consists of a command headquarters, two Navy Recruiting Regions and 26 NRDs that serve hundreds of recruiting stations across the country. The overall mission of NRC is to recruit the best men and women for America's Navy to accomplish today's missions and meet tomorrow's challenges.
