Three members of Naval Facilities Engineering Command (NAVFAC) Southwest High Voltage Shop were recognized by NAVFAC Commander Rear Adm. Bret Muilenburg during a presentation in San Diego, Jan. 21, for their work to restore power after outages caused by El Nino storms.

NAVFAC Southwest High Voltage Electrical Supervisor Mike Casey, High Voltage Electrician Leader Jose Perez, High Voltage Electrical Leader Richard Juarez received NAVFAC command coins in recognition of their efforts.

"These individuals' contributions in responding to the El Nino weather event that the San Diego area received was phenomenal," said Cmdr. John Jeffrey, NAVFAC Southwest Metro production officer. "Without their leadership and dedicated efforts, NAVFAC could not have been able to respond to the numerous outages and complete critical repairs necessary to restore power. It is an honor to have dedicated employees like this on our NAVFAC team."

Casey, Perez, and Juarez restored power to a Naval Base Coronado (NBC) building impacting basewide voice communications and a NBC Outlying Landing Field. The team also restored power to one of two transformers on a NBC pier that had caused a partial loss of electrical power to USS Carl Vinson (CVN 70).
