Naval Facilities Engineering Command (NAVFAC) Special Venture Acquisition Director Robert Harris was selected to the prestigious College of Fellows of the American Institute of Architects (AIA), Feb. 11.

The fellowship program was developed to elevate those architects who have made a significant contribution to architecture and society and who have achieved a standard of excellence in the profession.

"I am honored to be selected to the College of Fellows of the American Institute of Architects, under the category of advancing living standards of people through an improved environment, said Harris.

"This distinction would have not been possible without the many outstanding mentors I've worked with as a civilian at NAVFAC, serving in the Navy Civil Engineer Corps on active and reserve duty, and in the private sector," said Harris. "I am truly appreciative of all their guidance and have made it a point in my career to pass on to others what was given to me."

Out of a total AIA membership of over 88,000 there are only 3,200 members distinguished with the honor of being a Fellow. Election to fellowship not only recognizes the achievements of architects as individuals, but also their significant contribution to architecture and society on a national level.
