Naval Supply Systems Command Fleet Logistics Center (NAVSUP FLC) Norfolk hosted a visit by the director of the Mexican Navy General Staff, Rear Adm. Santiago Jose Morgado Gomez Sept. 22.

The visit started with a tour of NAVSUP FLC Norfolk's main headquarters, with personnel briefing him on the command's operations. Gomez also visited the Regional Supply Office Norfolk and Advanced Traceability and Control.

"The beehive of activity of both of those work centers transcends languages and nationality," said acting Executive Officer Capt. Lorenzo Williams. "They are visible examples of the work and dedication it takes to support our country's Navy and are universally understood."

NAVSUP FLC Norfolk Executive Director Dale Rieck added that Gomez was very interested in the command's collaboration with the Defense Logistics Agency on both warehousing and distribution, comparing how the Mexican Navy handled cargo movements with U.S. Navy processes and procedures.

"He was very impressed with our 24/7 customer support by the Global Distance Support Center, as well as the front line logistic support representative fleet assistance," said Rieck.

Williams added that the tour was a great chance to share best practices in a group of naval logistics professionals.

"The single most gratifying aspect of hosting a tour for our allies is sharing our enthusiasm for supporting our respective naval forces," Williams added.

NAVSUP FLC Norfolk, one of eight fleet logistics centers under NAVSUP Global Logistics Support (GLS), provides operational logistics, business and support services to fleet, shore and industrial commands with 37 separate locations in three Navy regions.

NAVSUP GLS comprises more than 5,700 military and civilian logistics professionals, contractors and foreign nationals operating as a single cohesive team providing an array of integrated global logistics and contracting services from 110 locations worldwide to Navy and Joint operational units across all warfare enterprises.

A component of the Naval Supply Systems Command headquartered in Mechanicsburg, Pennsylvania, NAVSUP GLS is part of a worldwide logistics network of more than 22,500 military and civilian personnel providing combat capability through logistics.
