Master Chief Petty Officer of the Navy (MCPON) Mike Stevens recognized NAVSUP Commander and 47th Chief of Supply Corps Rear Adm. Jonathan Yuen as an Honorary Chief Petty Officer in Mechanicsburg, Pennsylvania, Oct. 2.

"It is my honor to be here today in Mechanicsburg and to make this presentation," said Stevens. "It's been my observation over the last three years of my time as Master Chief Petty Officer of the Navy that Rear Adm. Yuen is a quiet, humble servant leader, who always treats his people with dignity and respect. He ensures his people are provided with an opportunity to be successful."

Stevens added that leaders have a responsibility to ensure all of their people have a fair and equal opportunity to be successful.

"I am very honored and proud that I have been trained by chiefs over the years," said Yuen. "I appreciate all the chiefs have done. In the Supply Corps, we have a lot of shore duties, so I think back too to all the civilians who have trained me as well. It's this blending of training that has allowed me to be in the position that I am in today. Of course my wife has helped me as well, being the lead of the household, which has given me a foundation so I can move forward."

Chief Petty Officer is the seventh enlisted rate in the United States Navy and U.S. Coast Guard, just above petty officer first class and below senior chief petty officer. The rate of chief petty officer is that of a senior non-commissioned officer, and was established on April 1, 1893 for the United States Navy.
