Naval Facilities Engineering Command (NAVFAC) Europe Africa Southwest Asia (EURAFSWA) publicized their selections for 2015 Sea Sailor of the Year (SOY) and Shore Sailor of the Year, Nov. 12.

Utilitiesman 1st Class Daniel T. Goodwin from Public Works Department (PWD) Sigonella, Sicily, Italy, was selected as the Shore Sailor of the Year and Engineering Aide 1st Class Sean O. Barezi from PWD Bahrain was selected as the Sea Sailor of the Year for calendar year 2015.

"The Sailor of the Quarter and Year Program is one of our key opportunities to recognize what our Sailors across NAVFAC are doing on a day to day basis on and off duty. Many times their job title, performance or assignments don't result in a "Thank You or Good Job" for when all the power is on, the toilets flush and the vehicles work," said NAVFAC EURAFSWA Command Master Chief John Cunningham.

"These two Sailors have represented their PWD, NAVFAC and the Navy through many accomplishments and challenges. I have been truly impressed by their motivated pursuit in expanding their professional growth and position within the complex business of being NAVFAC...truly effective members of the organization and Navy advocates!"

Goodwin is the leading petty officer (LPO) for PWD Sigonella managing the Utilities Energy Management Branch and is responsible for the operational employment, professional development, training, morale and good order and discipline of 42 military, support to 17 host nationals and one U.S. civilian.

"I am extremely honored to be selected as NAVFAC EURAFSWA Shore SOY. This accomplishment would not be possible without the hard work and dedication of my troops and Sicilian co-workers here in Public Works Sigonella, Sicily," said Goodwin.

"I will remain humble and remember that this achievement could not be done without the people around me."

Barezi is the LPO for PWD Bahrain, leading 20 Sailors in the completion of 8,200 work orders for 108 commands across 400 facilities. He also serves as the Performance Assessment Review Specialist (PARS) Branch Head and Facility Support Contracts Management and Facility Service PAR, managing a $12 million Base Operating Support contract.

"Being selected as the NAVFAC EURAFSWA Sea SOY is an honor and very humble experience. The command leadership gave me an opportunity to make a difference in leading troops, mentoring them, and at the same time making sure that our mission supporting the tenant commands was accomplished safely and with good quality products," said Barezi.

"The recognition was the result of a team effort. My troops were receptive and willing to give 110 percent at work every day. They helped me become a better leader and I was very fortunate to be a part of it."

Barezi and Goodwin will move on to compete in the NAVFAC Atlantic Sailor of the Year Board.
