Adm. Mark Ferguson, commander Naval Forces Europe, visited aircraft carrier USS Harry S. Truman (CVN 75) as the ship transited the Adriatic Sea after a port visit in Split, Croatia, Dec. 9.

Truman's four-day port visit marked the first occasion in which a United States aircraft carrier anchored at Split in nearly ten years.

Ferguson, who concurrently serves as commander, Naval Forces Africa and commander, Allied Join Force Command Naples, arrived with United States ambassadors to Croatia, Iceland and Slovenia. Also in attendance were the prime ministers of Croatia and Slovenia and deputy minister of defense from Albania and military leaders from the surrounding area.

During his time aboard Truman, Ferguson met with the ship's officers and chiefs to discuss maritime leadership and capabilities in the region.

"Visits like this provide an opportunity for senior leaders to see first-hand the capabilities that a U.S. carrier strike group represents, but more importantly the professionalism and caliber of our Sailors," said Ferguson. "These visits also give us the opportunity to demonstrate the range of capabilities the U.S. is willing to commit to regional security and stability in support of our allies and partners."

Truman departed Naval Station Norfolk on its scheduled deployment, Nov. 16, and is currently operating the 6th Fleet area of responsibility.
