The Sea Warrior Program (PMW 240) was honored, Dec. 10, at a Pentagon awards ceremony in the Hall of Heroes, receiving the Bronze Workforce Development Award (Small Organizations) and will be featured for the year on the Defense Acquisition Workforce Wall of Excellence at the Pentagon.

The Honorable Frank Kendall, under secretary of defense for Acquisition, Technology and Logistics presented the program office with the award, recognizing PMW 240 as one of the best of the best in efforts to improve the qualifications and professionalism of the acquisition workforce.

On hand to accept the award from the program were Program Manager Laura Knight and Deputy Program Manager Patrick Fitzgerald, along with several members of the PMW 240 leadership team.

"I was proud to accept this award on behalf of all of our members of the PMW 240 program office," said Knight. "We understand the importance of having the best workforce possible, and being recognized for it speaks to the hard work put in by so many of our team members."

The PMW 240 team was recognized for prioritizing talent management, developing leaders and knowledge transfer to its employees. PMW 240 uses its business plan, career path guide and training plan as a framework for the program's workforce development, which is enhanced by a work environment that encourages continual learning, professional development, and employee recognition. All of these aspects make PMW 240 a place that many talented professionals seek out and a program that the Navy trusts to take on an ever-increasing work load of acquisition projects.

This is the program's second award won this year. In November PMW 240, was presented with the Assistant Secretary of the Navy for Research, Development & Acquisition, Dr. Al Somoroff Acquisition Award, recognizing it for outstanding acquisition achievement in the accomplishment of its mission.

"We are extremely proud of our team at PMW 240," said Fitzgerald. "This recognition shows the commitment of the organization and all our team members to continuously improve and better serve the Sailors."

PMW 240 manages a complex portfolio of information technology systems to support Navy human resource management, criminal justice, fleet support, afloat business applications, Department of the Navy (DON) and Department of Defense (DOD) portfolio management, DON administration and joint aviation aircraft scheduling. The Sea Warrior portfolio includes support or development of 30 systems, 30 initiatives and 13 applications, and is deployed on 169 ships and 70 submarines.
