More than 2,000 Sailors, Marines and Coast Guardsmen will participate in the 25th annual Fleet Week Port Everglades May 4-10. The event has been hosted by Broward Navy Days and other military support organizations since 1990. Participating units include:

U.S. Navy amphibious assault ship USS Wasp (LHD 1) from Norfolk, Virginia
U.S. Navy guided-missile destroyer USS Cole (DDG 67) from Norfolk, Virginia
U.S. Navy guided-missile destroyer USS James E. Williams (DDG 95) from Norfolk, Virginia
U.S. Coast Guard cutter USCGC Richard Etheridge (WPC 1102) from Miami, Florida.
Virginia-class submarine from Groton, Conn. (yet to be named)
U.S. Marines from the 22nd Marine Expeditionary Unit in Camp Lejeune, North Carolina
Navy Operational Support Centers in Miami and West Palm Beach
Expeditionary Strike Group 2 from Norfolk, Virginia.
Navy Region Southeast from Jacksonville, Florida.

Fleet Week Port Everglades provides an opportunity for the citizens of South Florida to witness first-hand the latest capabilities of today's maritime services, and gain a better understanding of how the sea services support the maritime strategy and national defense of the United States. The Navy, Marine Corps, and Coast Guard are our nation's first line of defense, providing presence around the world to ensure stability, build on our relationships with allies and partners, prevent wars, and provide America's leaders with options in times of crisis.
