A Training Support Center (TSC) Great Lakes Sailor was able to have her mother in attendance for a career milestone for the first time in more than 10 years, April 23.

Navy Counselor 1st Class (SW/AW) Laniya Allen earned the master training specialist title which was presented by TSC Commanding Officer Capt. John B. Vliet. The ceremony was attended by members of the TSC staff and Allen's mother, Theresa Houston who lives in Georgia, but was able to attend the ceremony.

"She's my first born. I'm so proud of her," Houston said.

Allen was equally as excited to have her mother in attendance for this recognition. After some debate, Allen and her mother agreed the last event she was able to attend was Allen's re-enlistment more than 10 years ago.

"It means everything (to have her here)," Allen said. "It's nice for your family to get to see you be recognized for your accomplishments."
