Navy's Top Language Professionals Award Winners Announced

Chief of Naval Personnel (CNP) announced the 2014 fiscal year language professional awards winners, May, 4.
Chief of Naval Personnel (CNP) announced the 2014 fiscal year language professional awards winners, May, 4.

The awards are presented for the following categories: Senior Annual Language Professional (SLPOY), Annual Language Professional (LPOY) Non-Career Linguist (LOY), Command Language Program (CLPOY), and Civilian Language Professional of the Year awards.

-SLPOY: Senior Chief Cryptologic Technician Tristan Bell, attached to U.S. Navy Information Operations Command Bahrain,

- LPOY : Cryptologic Technician 1st Class Harrison Goforth, attached to Navy Information Operations Command, Maryland,

- LOY: Builder 2nd Class (IDW) Qaiser Khan, attached to Naval Special Warfare Cultural Engagement Unit, Coronado, California,

- CLPOY: Navy Information Operation Command (NIOC), Maryland, and

- Civilian Language Professional of the Year: Stuart F. Martin, who works at the Office of Naval Intelligence.

The awards are given annually to recognize the top Command Language Program, military and civilian language professionals, and non-career linguists who have achieved mission success through the use of foreign language.

Goforth is heading on to compete in Defense Department's 2014 Language Professional of the Year which is the DoDs top award that recognizes outstanding military language professionals and their accomplishments and highlights the critical role military linguists play in supporting missions around the world.

NIOC Maryland is heading on to compete in Defense Department's 2014 Command Language Program the top commands are then judged across the Department of Defense in the competition that is overseen by the Defense Language Institute Foreign Language Center.
