Navy Training Jet Runs Off Runway; Navy Pilot OK

The U.S. Navy pilot who safely ejected from a U.S. Navy T-45C Goshawk near Naval Air Station North Island at approximately 2 p.m. May 22 has been released from the hospital and is in stable condition.
The U.S. Navy pilot who safely ejected from a U.S. Navy T-45C Goshawk near Naval Air Station North Island at approximately 2 p.m. May 22 has been released from the hospital and is in stable condition.

The pilot, who was safely recovered by local mariners from San Diego Bay, was transported to University of California, San Diego Medical Center for medical evaluation and has since been released.

The pilot was from Training Squadron NINE (VT-9), stationed out of Naval Air Station Meridian, Mississippi.

The aircraft was conducting routine training in advance of aircraft carrier landing qualifications prior to the mishap.

The Navy is currently working to crane the aircraft out of the water.

A safety investigation will be carried out to determine the cause.
