U.S. Naval Forces Europe-Africa (NAVEUR-NAVAF) Fleet Master Chief Steven Giordano visited Camp Lemonnier, Djibouti, and Combined Joint Task Force-Horn of Africa (CJTF-HOA) forward operating locations June 3-5.

This was Giordano's first visit with Sailors and DoD employees on the African continent since becoming the new NAVEUR-NAVAF Fleet Master Chief.

Quotes:
"In order for leaders to be effective and efficient in setting the conditions for our Sailors to be successful, we have to understand the environments we place them in and the conditions they operate in every single day. Through battle space circulation, leadership is better equipped to understand the conditions affecting quality of work and quality of life."

Quick Facts:
* Giordano hosted all-hands calls at each destination, answering questions from the audience, which included topics about the command's quality of work and quality of life.

* Giordano's visits included tours through workspaces and facilities and office calls with leadership.

* Giordano's visits tie in to Commander, NAVEUR-NAVAF Adm. Mark Ferguson's lines of efforts: sustain warfighting readiness, strengthen alliances and partnerships and conduct operations forward.

* Camp Lemonnier provides, operates and sustains superior service in support of combat readiness and security of ships, aircraft, detachments and personnel for regional and combatant command requirements; and enables operations in the Horn of Africa while fostering positive U.S.-African Nation relations.

* The Camp Lemonnier staff is comprised of approximately 300 U.S. Navy Sailors and civilians supporting more than 4,000 U.S., joint and allied forces, military and civilian personnel, and U.S. DoD contractors. Additionally, the base provides employment for approximately 100 local and third country national workers.

* Combined Joint Task Force-Horn of Africa, in partnership with our joint, interagency, intergovernmental, and multinational teammates, conducts theater security cooperation activities to enable regional actors to neutralize violent extremist organizations and enables regional access and freedom of movement within East Africa in order to protect and defend United States interests.

* U.S. 6th Fleet, headquartered in Naples, Italy, conducts the full spectrum of joint and naval operations, often in concert with allied, joint, and interagency partners, in order to advance U.S. national interests and security and stability in Europe and Africa.
