The Arleigh Burke-class guided-missile destroyer USS Forrest Sherman (DDG 98) held a change of command ceremony aboard the vessel in Salalah, Oman, June 13.

Cmdr. Todd Zenner relieved Cmdr. John Krisciunas to become the ship's seventh commanding officer since the ship's commissioning in 2006.

"During my time aboard the crew has performed admirably and shown all the qualities we expect and demand of United States Sailors," said Krisciunas. "I couldn't be prouder of their accomplishments. It has been a privilege to serve in such an exceptional ship."

Krisciunas, a native of Wyndham, New Hampshire, took command of Forrest Sherman in January 2014 after serving a successful tour as the ship's executive officer. Upon assuming command, Krisciunas led Forrest Sherman through pre-deployment workups including numerous inspections and exercises before deploying with the Theodore Roosevelt Carrier Strike Group (TRCSG) in March 2015.

"Congratulations to Cmdr.Krisciunas for a highly successful command tour," said Zenner. "He leaves behind an exceptionally well maintained ship with an incredible crew. I'm truly humbled and excited about the opportunity to continue making Forrest Sherman and the fine professionals aboard better every single day."

Zenner, a native of Cotulla, Texas, reported to Forrest Sherman in January 2014 as executive officer.

Lt. Cmdr. James Murdock, will take over as Forrest Sherman's executive officer.

Krisciunas will transfer to Cambridge, Massachusetts, where he will serve as federal executive fellow at Massachusetts Institute of Technology. He was awarded the Meritorious Service Medal for his performance as Forrest Sherman's commanding officer.

The Forrest Sherman is part of the TRCSG, which is composed of Carrier Strike Group 12, Carrier Air Wing 1, Destroyer Squadron 2 staff, guided-missile cruiser USS Normandy (CG 60) and guided-missile destroyers USS Winston S. Churchill (DDG 81) and USS Farragut (DDG 99).

While deployed, the strike group will serve in the U.S. 5th and 6th Fleet areas of responsibility to improve warfighting capability and focus on maritime security operations and theater security cooperation efforts, which help establish conditions for regional stability.
