NAVSUP FLC Jacksonville Tracking "Integrated Logistics" for PCU Gabrielle Giffords (LCS 10)

General Dynamics/Austal USA and the Navy celebrated the christening of the future littoral combat ship USS Gabrielle Giffords (LCS 10) on June 13 at Austal's shipyard in Mobile, Alabama.

Although Gabrielle Giffords may have just been christened, in-depth integrated logistics (IL) have been going on behind the scenes years prior to the laying of the keel and will continue throughout the life of the ship. IL provides a collective approach to complex and interrelated actions involving Naval Sea Systems Command (NAVSEA) and Naval Supply Systems Command (NAVSUP) in regard to the littoral combat ships built by General Dynamics/Austal USA. Every part of the collective effort works together and results in a fully capable mission ready ship at delivery.

One piece of the collaborated effort is provided by NAVSUP Fleet Logistics Center Jacksonville logisticians, who work side-by-side with the NAVSEA Supervisor of Shipbuilding (SUPSHIP) Gulf Coast workforce.

During the IL process, logisticians have extracted and processed the first and second incremental stock number sequence list from the weapon system file resulting in the submission of thousands of Military Standard Requisitioning and Issue Procedures (MILSTRIP) requisitions valued at more than $3.5 million while verifying and receiving more than 44 percent of material in the Real-Time Outfitting Management Information System (ROMIS). This was the initial start of the ships coordinated shipboard allowance list (COSAL). The collective IL effort will increase operational readiness and result in improved operational capability at sea.

NAVSUP actions are directly aligned with the CNO's strategic objective of "Unity of Effort" and focuses on strengthening the NAVSEA logistics partnership with direct on-site logistics support. This integrated logistic support compliments and enables SUPSHIP Gulf Coast's ability to meet their mission to "develop, acquire, modernize, and maintain affordable ships, ordinance, and systems that are operationally superior so our Sailors and Marines can protect and defend our national interests and, if necessary, fight and win." The christening of the future USS Gabrielle Giffords (LCS 10) is the result of what our Navy stands for: honor, courage and commitment.
