USS Fort McHenry Visits Montenegro

The Whidbey Island-class amphibious dock landing ship USS Fort McHenry (LSD 43) arrived in Bar, Montenegro, for a scheduled port visit, June 24.
The Whidbey Island-class amphibious dock landing ship USS Fort McHenry (LSD 43) arrived in Bar, Montenegro, for a scheduled port visit, June 24.

The port visit serves to enhance relations between the United States and Montenegro as the two nations work together to provide a stable, secure, and prosperous Europe.

Quick Facts:
-This is the first port of call for the Sailors and Marines after re-entering the U.S. 6th Fleet area of operations and marks the beginning of the ship's homeward journey after spending more than six months at sea.

-Volunteer Sailors and Marines are scheduled to participate in a community relations event, working with host nationals to help restore a local high school.

-Fort McHenry, homeported in Mayport, Florida, and deployed as part of the Iwo Jima Amphibious Ready Group/24th Marine Expeditionary Unit is conducting naval operations in the U.S. 6th Fleet area of operations in support of U.S. national security interests in Europe.

U.S. 6th Fleet, headquartered in Naples, Italy, conducts the full spectrum of joint and naval operations, often in concert with allied, joint, and interagency partners, in order to advance U.S. national interests and security and stability in Europe and Africa.
