America's history was forever changed Sept. 11, 2001 when the World Trade Center collapsed, the Pentagon was attacked and four aircraft fell from the sky. It was a day most Americans will ever forget.

In a ceremony hosted by Truman's chief selectees, Sailors aboard aircraft carrier USS Harry S. Truman (CVN 75) paid tribute by honoring the 14th anniversary of 9/11 to the men and women who were lost and the heroes who arose when they risked their lives for fellow Americans.

"It's important that we commemorate those who have fallen," said Chief Ship's Serviceman A. Ransaw, the master of ceremonies. "We have a lot of Sailors onboard that are from New York, and I think it's a great thing that we do this every year. That day affected a lot of people."

The tragic events which transpired that day would impact many Americans. To Truman, it is the inspiration for a future generation of Sailors.

"We can't forget what happened that day," said Culinary Specialist 1st Class J. Dowell, who assisted the military sealift command USNS Comfort (T-AH20) as a first responder at Ground Zero. "We are still trying to honor them and to protect our country, our families and our beliefs."

September 11, 2001 had an impact that could not be foreseen by its perpetrators.

"Since that day our country has shown great resolve," said Capt. R. B. Scholl, commanding officer, USS Harry S. Truman (CVN 75). "We are still out there fighting. We are not done yet."
