NAVSUP FLC Bahrain Ramps up Service for Back to Back Port Visits

24 September 2015
The month of September saw a rare occurrence for Navy Supply Systems Command (NAVSUP) Fleet Logistics Center (FLC) Bahrain as two large deck ships, USS Theodore Roosevelt (CVN 71) and USS Essex (LHD 2) made consecutive port visits to Bahrain to spend a combined total of two weeks in port.
The month of September saw a rare occurrence for Navy Supply Systems Command (NAVSUP) Fleet Logistics Center (FLC) Bahrain as two large deck ships, USS Theodore Roosevelt (CVN 71) and USS Essex (LHD 2) made consecutive port visits to
Bahrain to spend a combined total of two weeks in port.

What made this event unique is that schedules are usually not aligned to have two big deck ships pull into Bahrain one right after the other.

The immediately consecutive port visits of Theodore Roosevelt and Essex provided an opportunity for NAVSUP FLC Bahrain to flex their logistics capability and provide both ships with the contracting and supply support they needed.

"During the two week time frame that the ships were in port our Logistics Support Center delivered more than 200 pallets of cargo and coordinated the delivery of more than 350 tri-walls of mail." said Lt. Cmdr. Ryan Zintgraff, NAVSUP FLC Bahrain, operations officer, "That is about 156,000 pounds of material and mail delivered to the ships each week they were in port."

In addition to working with the ships' staff, NAVSUP FLC Bahrain also coordinated with the embarked Marine Expeditionary Unit to deliver cargo and offload used hazardous material and depot level repair items.
Throughout the port visits of Theodore Roosevelt and Essex, NAVSUP FLC Bahrain provided consistent, efficient service and was able to get the ships what they needed to ensure the continued achievement of their missions.

NAVSUP FLC Bahrain has more than 160 military and civilian personnel providing logistics support in the Naval Forces Central Command area of responsibility. The command is one of eight fleet logistics centers worldwide in the NAVSUP Global Logistics Support (GLS) enterprise.

NAVSUP GLS provides global logistics for a global Navy. The organization is made up of more than 6,500 military and civilian logistics professionals operating from 105 locations worldwide providing an extensive array of integrated global logistics and contracting services to Navy, Marine Corps, joint operational units, and allied forces across all warfare enterprises.
