10 March 2015
Training Support Center San Diego (TSCSD) announced its 2015 Senior Sailor of the Quarter (SSOQ) and Junior Sailor of the Quarter (JSOQ) for the first quarter during an award ceremony Feb. 3.
Training Support Center San Diego (TSCSD) announced its 2015 Senior Sailor of the Quarter (SSOQ) and Junior Sailor of the Quarter (JSOQ) for the first quarter during an award ceremony Feb. 3.

Operations Specialist 1st Class Dorothy Johnson, from Hattiesburg, Mississippi. was named the SSOQ and Operations Specialist 2nd Class Shanaya Scott, from Harlem, New York, was named the JSOQ.

As the leading petty officer (LPO) at TSCSD's Naval Base Point Loma office, Johnson mentors and helps Sailors transition to the fleet.

"The most rewarding thing about being at TSCSD is that I get to make a positive impact on the junior Sailors before they report to the fleet," said Johnson. "The junior Sailors have a lot of questions and I ensure that they have everything they need to make it to the fleet, trained and ready-to-go."

Scott reported to TSCSD in August 2012 and provides centralized student management and training support to NETC activities within the San Diego area.

"There is nothing more fulfilling than guiding and mentoring my junior Sailors," said Scott.

During her tenure at TSCSD, Scott has mentored more than 950 Sailors, coordinated more than 1,000 personnel transportation flights, and worked closely with Personnel Support Detachments (PSDs) and enlisted detailers to decrease SEAL/SWCC hold time by 50 percent. In addition, she is a SAPR Victims Advocate, an active member of the Petty Officer Association, Multi-cultural Heritage Committee and the Assistant Command Financial Specialist.

Capt. Robert E. Beauchamp, TSCSD commanding officer, said that Johnson and Scott are key players on his team, dedicated to success.

"I've heard OS1 Johnson use the phrase, 'Every champion was once a challenger who refused to give up,'" said Beauchamp. "Those words apply to each of us; drive to your vision of success and you will accomplish great things along the way. Our mission here at TSCSD is to provide the right Sailor with the right schools and move those Sailors to the fleet, and these two outstanding leaders are driving us towards that goal every day."
