Commander, Naval Sea Systems Command (COMNAVSEA) Vice Adm. William Hilarides presented two Sailors from Southwest Regional Maintenance Center (SWRMC) with the Chief of Naval Operations' (CNO) Letter of Commendation during the American Society of Naval Engineers (ASNE) Day Conference March 4 in Arlington, Virginia.

Electronics Technician 2nd Class Joshua Greene and Electronics Technician 2nd Class Michael Strunk, both of SWRMC's Miniature/Micro-miniature (2M) Shop, repaired more than 1,100 circuit cards in fiscal year (FY)14, and were ranked as the top two 2M Gold Disk technicians in the Navy for that time period.

"It was an honor to see Petty Officers Greene and Strunk receive an award for their hard work. It was a great opportunity for them to promote the 2M/MTR Program throughout the fleet, as well as what we do here at SWRMC," said Catherine Rohrer, SWRMC's Code 953 product line supervisor. "They really 'sold' Gold Disk, showing the usefulness of the program to the project managers [at ASNE]."

The Sailors' accomplishment cemented SWRMC's place as the top performing 2M, Module Test and Repair (MTR), and Gold Disk Regional Intermediate Maintenance Activity Command for the year.

Gold Disk developers, like Greene and Strunk, are experts in the field of micro-miniature repair, using their expertise to develop standards for other technicians to effect repairs. Utilizing schematics and various technologies, they develop engineered step-by-step processes for other technicians to use when troubleshooting or repairing circuit cards, modules, and electronic systems.

Rohrer was present at the ASNE conference, along with Product Family Division Officer Lt. Alexia Morgan and SWRMC Commanding Officer Capt. Heidemarie Stefanyshyn-Piper to support Greene and Strunk as Hilarides presented the two Sailors with their award on behalf of Chief of Naval Operations Adm. Jonathan Greenert.
