A 1988 Naval Academy graduate, Lt. Matice Wright-Springer became the first black woman to qualify as a naval flight officer in 1993. She logged thousands of flight hours in both the EC-130 and the E-6 aircraft. After serving in the Navy, she was presidentially appointed to serve as a White House fellow at the Department of Treasury. She returned to government service a few years later as a member of thesenior executive service at the Department of Defense. She currently serves on the Naval Academy Board of Visitors and as a senior vice president at Booz Allen’s aerospace business (2021).
