How do I check the status of my claim?
Visit the CLJA Claims Management Portal and sign in to your account using the same email address you provided on your original CLJA claim form. Then, select your claim to view the status and check for incoming messages from the Camp Lejeune Claims Unit. If you are represented by an attorney, only your attorney can access your CLJA claim online.
What Is The Camp Lejeune Justice Act Claims Management Portal?
The CLJA Claims Management Portal is a user-friendly online tool that was specifically developed for use by claimants or their attorneys to electronically file and monitor their claim. The portal also has a messaging function that will allow the claimant and the Department of the Navy to communicate with one another in a secured fashion during the process of adjudicating the claim.
How long will it take to process my CLJA claim?
The Department of the Navy is dedicated to processing all CLJA claims as expeditiously and efficiently as possible. We are currently prioritizing the review and settlement of Elective Option claims.
May I file a lawsuit and bypass the administrative claims process altogether?
No. The CLJA requires that a claimant first file an administrative claim with the Department of the Navy. If your claim is denied, or if you do not receive a decision on the claim within six (6) months of filing your claim, the CLJA allows a claimant to then proceed to Federal court. The Department of the Navy’s objective is to process all claims as expeditiously as possible, and a claimant is entitled to wait for a decision from the Department of the Navy before deciding if it is in their interest to proceed with litigation. If your claim is denied, you will be advised of your right to file a lawsuit and the time you have to do so (the statute of limitations for filing a lawsuit) in that decision letter.
If I elect to file a lawsuit, which court will hear my case?
The United States District Court for the Eastern District of North Carolina has exclusive jurisdiction over any lawsuit filed pursuant to the CLJA.
